RELEASE: Jeromy Farkas is running for mayor

February 26, 2025

Calgary, AB - Jeromy Farkas, former city councillor and current CEO, announced today that he is running to be mayor of Calgary. As the city continues to experience unprecedented growth, Jeromy is focused on building a city that works for everyone.

“I’m running to get Calgary moving again and ready for the future,” said Jeromy. “That means housing we can afford, jobs we can count on, and safe streets for our kids.”

Jeromy shares the frustrations of many Calgarians who don’t see their priorities reflected by the current city council.

“City hall is stuck,” he said. “This city council feels out of touch. They waste time and money--all while picking petty fights.”

“We need leadership that we can trust to get city hall working again,” Jeromy continued. “As mayor, I will get city hall focused on actions that matter to make sure we all prosper.”

Jeromy previously served Calgarians as a city councillor, police commissioner, and community association volunteer. He grew up in the south east community of Dover as the child of immigrants who worked hard to ensure their family could live the Canadian dream. Jeromy helped out with a variety of jobs including working the Dairy Queen drive-through in Forest Lawn and long nights at the IKO shingle mill in Ogden.

“No matter how hard things got, we always found a way,” said Jeromy. “My granny Liz used to tell me that ‘Calgary means being part of something bigger’. We were more than just jobs or taxpayers; we were part of a community that had our back.”

During his first term in office, Jeromy was a champion for financial responsibility, public safety, and community infrastructure that all helped to make Calgary one of the best cities in which to live.

“Calgary has grown in the past ten years, and so have I,” said Jeromy. “I’ve learned that leadership means owning your mistakes; attacking problems rather than people; and that you can only succeed if you build, and lean on, a diverse team.”

Following his time in office, Jeromy doubled down as a community builder, filmmaker, and athlete. In 2022, he embarked on a 172-day journey from Mexico to Canada in support of Big Brothers and Big Sisters. In 2023, he completed a 25-peaks-in-25-days winter mountaineering challenge in support of the Alex Community Health Center. He is a student mentor at his alma mater, University of Calgary, and competes annually in the “Challenge the Chief” event, racing up Calgary’s tallest tower in full-duty equipment in support of cancer care for firefighters.

As CEO of the registered charity Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation, he works across party lines to bring together people “to get things done”. His successes include the development of Outdoor Leadership School in partnership with the Calgary Board of Education, improving the Government of Alberta’s Bow River flood mitigation plans to protect Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park and Calgary’s Haskayne Legacy Park, and concluding a historic privately-fundraised $8.2M land deal to link the two parks.

In the 2025 municipal election, Jeromy Farkas is standing as an independent candidate.

“Calgarians deserve a pragmatic leader who can make decisions without party or ideological interference,” said Jeromy. “I intend to be a mayor who can bring together the best ideas and best people to get the best results for Calgarians.”

“This is our chance to build a city that moves forward for everyone,” said Jeromy. “We need a Calgary that reflects our hopes for this great place. We need a new path forward.”
